NASHVILLE, TN (05/12/17) – Boys & Girls Club’s RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities), a youth outreach program designed to promote interest in baseball while increasing the self-esteem of disadvantaged children, will open the 2017 season tomorrow at Looby Park (2301 Metro Center Boulevard, Nashville, TN 37228). The day will begin with the Parade of Champions at 10:00 AM. Thanks to the generous financial and volunteer support of Bridgestone/Firestone, festivities will include grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, snow cones, and jump houses. Boys & Girls Club youth will take the fields at 11:00 AM. Seven games are scheduled across two fields. The last game will conclude at 5:15 PM.  RBI is a Major League Baseball youth outreach program designed to:
  • Increase participation and interest in baseball and softball among underserved youth
  • Encourage academic participation and achievement
  • Increase number of talented athletes prepared to play in college and minor leagues
  • Promote greater inclusion of minorities into the mainstream of the game
  • Teach the value of teamwork
RBI programs have been started in more than 200 cities worldwide, and annually provide more than 260,000 boys and girls the opportunity to play baseball and softball. Locally, 195 youth, ages 5-18, participate on thirteen Boys & Girls Club’s RBI teams.
